A detachment from the Adepta Sooritas were sent to recover a lost relic by their order. Just as they were about to recover a sub faction from the Kabal of the Black Heart (Kabal of Paijn) sprung their trap on the sisters. A dark lance Ravager and Raider unleashed their heavy fire upon the rhino bringing it down before any warnings could be given.
As the drukhari started to move to engage the sisters dug in and consolidated immediately. Laying down a suppressing line of bolter fire slowed down the drukhari, but it wasn't long before they were engaged in close combat. The Reavers drew first blood on the sacrosancts of the sisterhood, only to be quickly gunned down by the battle sisters straight after.
On the opposite wing the drukhari got assaulted in to the flagellants, making short work of the incubi before the wyches wiped them out in return. Caught out the zephyrm squads landed behind enemy lines the purge the remaining wyches by fire. Return fire from the kabal warriors put a quick end to them before a second assault against another unit of sacrosancts ended in an unexpected win for the kabals (although much depleted).
With much of the infantry depleted, the Canoness charged in and took out the Archon Paijn to end the battle.
The sisters had recovered their relic at great cost, but no cost is to great in the service of the Emperor.
Mission special rule meant no units were able to advance and doubles on an assault automatically failed.
