TOSS Awards 2022
Good Afternoon and welcome to this the seventeenth annual awards sponsored as usual by The Other Side. Well, a very minimal year of activity just six sessions since last year’s breakthrough al fresco presentation. Some awards were nevertheless put forward, and although saddened by the small scale, the Academy is proud to announce the presentation of several this year despite the unfavourable circumstances.

The Award for picking up helpless victims
Varamir for collecting the doppelganger in the stable
The whole party for collecting a bunch of slaves in the slave pens
The whole party for collecting yet another doppelganger from the slave pens
And the winner, Varamir

Least successful trap Detection
Bernice for detecting the tripwire alarm at the first aspis cavern. Sadly by tripping over it
Varamir for brilliantly discovering the stair chute trap at the end of the slave pits by kicking the door in and triggering it.
And the winner is: Bernice

Stupidest action
Bernice the closet dwarfist, ‘accidentally’ shooting Varamir in the back during an engagement with orcs.
Malakai for even thinking about using a lightning bolt in the confined space during the boss level fight in the slave pens
Varamir (again) for brilliantly discovering the stair chute trap at the end of the slave pits by kicking the door in and triggering it.
The whole party for failing to adequately secure their mounts so they were spooked when the Mage used a fireball during the night attack on their camp
Malakai the afore mentioned Mage for using a fireball against the (easily turnable) ghouls that spooked half the party’s mounts
And it’s another win for Bernice

Inspired Spell Casting
Zandeep for using Tensers disc to avoid the lurking creatures under the sewage
Any time Malakai cast slow eg the aspis, hill giants
The Winner: Zandeep

Most paranoid spell casting
Only one nomination here, the winner, Zunee for casting cure disease on himself in case he had caught lycanthropy from his werewolf bite
Most awkward spell casting
Zandeep for using Monster summoning that brought forth a squad of Kettite bandits, just after the battle finished. #have you come far?
Bob for casting prayer twice when the action was all over before it could have any effect
And the award goes to : Bob

Best Death
Sadly some narrow squeaks but no actual demise unless you count the luckless rescued slave Porric, slain by one of the many doppelgangers that the party enjoy collecting

Most reckless
Malakai for even risking carrying a wand of wonder
Zunee for using his ring of shooting stars waking half of Highport with the blast
And in a remarkable effort, nominated three times for the same incident; Varamir for kicking in the door triggering the stair chute at the end of the slave pits
And Varamir takes this one, third time lucky.

Most selfless/sporting action
Zandeep & Bob for deciding not to try and turn the ghouls as the ruined tower to let someone else have a chance
The whole party for letting the slaves freed in the pens decide whether to stay with the party or try to make their own way out (to certain death)
The whole party for deciding respect the Malakai fried goblins bodies and refrain from looting them for the no doubt fortune in copper pieces that they might have gleaned
And the whole party wins this one

Best parley
Malakai for his (very frustrating) debate with the distinguished representative of the magic users’ guild
Zunee for his witty repartee with the sergeant of the orc patrol outside the ruined temple
Malakai for Rory the bar tender in Valice
Bernice with the escaped slave
And this is a win for Malakai

Best Attempt to increase Carbon Footprint
Very poor effort from Phil here, failing to cross the Thames to enjoy a session
But the winner, Toby by some distance for continuing in his efforts to overpopulate the world and add to the burden on the planet’s already scarce resources

The final two categories were open to a general vote of all academy members

Best Character
Nominated
The following received at least one vote:
Bernice the artful monk who glides silently in her elvish boots
Zunee the armoured tank masquerading as a ranger
Malakai The evil magic User with a heart of …well, the jury’s still out
And the winner, Malakai

Player of The Year 2022
Nominated, Toby for Zunee and Zandeep, Jen for Bernice & Bob, and Sam for Varamir and Malakai,
Toby of course has won this award three years running.

Make that 4 it’s Toby

22.4.23
